Chrome Activation

Chrome activator is for electroplated bright nickel deposits plated prior to bright chromium plating. It  prevents chromium films and stains that are the result of passive bright nickel deposits due to insufficient rinsing and/ or too long periods between nickel plating and chromium plating.

KM CR ACTIVATOR ELECTROLYTIC CHROMIUM PLATING ACTIVATOR

Physical Properties:
KM CR ACTIVATOR : Powder

Description

KM CR ACTIVATOR is an electrolytic (cathodic) activator for electroplated bright nickel deposits plated prior to bright chromium plating. KM CR ACTIVATOR replaces electroless activation using chromic acid.

KM CR ACTIVATOR prevents chromium films and stains that are the result of passive bright nickel deposits due to insufficient rinsing and/ or too long periods between nickel plating and chromium plating.

Equipment

Tank: Steel tank lined with Koroseal, plastic, hard rubber or other approved lining. Fittings should be copper or nickel-plated copper

Racks: Plating rack coatings must be approved for plating use. Work pieces must be firmly attached to the racks. If the work pieces are very light, the racks should be correspondingly heavier to prevent swinging

Heating/Cooling: Normally not required

Rectifiers: Must have capacity to develop necessary direct current, with less than 5% ripple at amperage used. Rectifiers must be protected against corrosion from acid fumes or placed away from solution. 8 or 12 volt units are usually acceptable

Agitation: Used only to ensure uniform process temperature and ensure proper mixing of chemical additions

Anodes: Lead-tin alloy anodes recommended e.g. PbSn6 strip
